Fire brigade battles blaze at industrial estate

Enormous plumes of smoke are currently sweeping across a Dublin industrial estate following a fire in a storage unit.

Emergency services are battling flames at the fire at Ballymount industrial estate.

At least 4 fire brigades, 1 ambulance and one Garda car are in attendance. No casualties confirmed. A Garda helicopter is circling the scene and the smoke can be seen from the m50.

It is believed the fire could take some hours to extinguish. Flames can be seen from the roof.

Dublin Fire Brigade's fire incident commander has asked that people "avoid the area where possible".

Commuters travelling on the adjacent M50 have been warned not to get distracted by the fire.

Fire crews told Independent.ie the wind is changeable and they are finding it difficult to contain the blaze.

The fire is believed to have started at a 'Store It' storage facility, but crews have yet been unable to determine the blaze.

People in nearby buildings are being evacuated.

A member of the Dublin fire brigade incident command unit said they are confident there are no hazardous materials on fire in the storage unit.

Massive plumes of smoke can be seen in the surrounding area.
