Fine for man who swallowed heroin
A DUBLIN man swallowed a bag of heroin when gardai tried to search him for drugs, a court heard.
Sean Kavanagh (32) has battled a problem with heroin for over a decade, but is now clean.
Judge Deirdre Gearty fined him €200.
The defendant, of Ashgrove, Kill Avenue in Dun Laoghaire, admitted before Dun Laoghaire District Court to obstruction under the misuse of drugs act at Queen's Road, Dun Laoghaire on July 21, 2012.
Garda Ivor Scully said he went to search Kavanagh but he threw a small bag into his mouth and swallowed it.
Kavanagh later admitted the bag contained heroin.
Defence solicitor Ronnie Lynam said Kavanagh is now stabilised on methadone.
