BERTIE Ahern was up to his old tricks last night as several Fianna Fail candidates stabbed their running mates in the back.
Ahern issued a lengthy letter to constituents in Dublin Central, urging them to vote for "first class TD" Cyprian Brady.
The message mentions Ahern's "fantastic colleague" a dozen times but spares just a single mention for Mary Fitzpatrick.
In Limerick Willie O'Dea has accused his running mate Peter Power of being "sneaky", "childish" and "grossly dishonest".
Finance Minister Brian Lenihan was also forced to resort to a desperate plea for votes.
A letter to his Dublin West constituents makes absolutely no mention of Fianna Fail or his running mate David McGuinness.
In 2007, Mr Brady was elected on transfers from Mr Ahern's vote that followed a last minute leaflet drop that caused Mary Fitzpatrick to claim she was "shafted".
Ms Fitzpatrick told the Herald that she was "not very surprised" by Mr Ahern's intervention.
