Father and son appear on assault charges

A FATHER and his teenage son have appeared in court charged with carrying out serious assaults on two women in west Dublin.

The 40-year-old man and his 16-year-old son are both facing assault and weapons charges in connection with an incident more than a year ago.

They were remanded on continuing bail at Blanchardstown District Court for the preparation of books of evidence.

The accused are to be tried at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court after the DPP said that the cases were too serious to be dealt with at district court level.

Each accused is charged with assault causing harm to one woman and assault with intent to cause bodily harm to a second at a location in west Dublin on a date in late 2010.

Evidence of arrest charge and caution by certificate was handed in to the court.

Judge Anthony Halpin extended time for the books of evidence and remanded the defendants on bail to appear in Blanchardstown District Court again on February 20.
