Fat Frogs, Wham bars and Care Bears bring back nostalgic memories for children of the Eighties.

A new survey of more than 700 people who were born before 1985 revealed that 90pc are glad they grew up in a more innocent time.

The technological developments of the past decade do not appeal to them, with 72pc saying the biggest difference between the two eras is the joy of playing most of the day in the fresh air as opposed to the hours spent on devices inside the house.

Cycling or walking to school, rather than being chauffeured everywhere, were seen as the second biggest difference between the Eighties and now.

When it comes to sweets, Fat Frogs - the green ice pops - were most fondly remembered by 35pc of those questioned, while 28pc named Wham Bars as their favourites.

More than a third of those surveyed (36pc) chose Care Bears as their favourite toy of the Eighties, followed by Lego bricks with 28pc and Cabbage Patch Kids with 22pc.

Health insurer GloHealth commissioned the #BornBefore1985 survey to explore the attitudes of those who will be affected by the new Lifetime Community Rating initiative, which is designed to encourage people to take out private health insurance before they turn 35. The deadline is April 30.

Broadcaster Sile Seoige (35) said that, being an Eighties child, she remembers fondly playing with her Care Bears.

"But on the more serious side, it's hugely concerning that 60pc are unaware of the Lifetime Community Rating initiative which has considerable financial implications for those over 34 taking out health insurance for the first time," she added.
