Family's fresh hope in Michaella search
THE family of an Irish girl who went missing in Ibiza are growing more confident that she will be found safe and well.
Michaella McCollum Connolly, who is in her 20s, disappeared 12 days ago.
The young nightclub hostess has been living in the Balearic island for the summer.
Kayla – as she's known to friends – left her home in Belfast in mid-June until September.
It was going to be a welcome break for her after studying all year as a photography student.
Friend Sophia Taylor (20), from Carrickfergus, Co Antrim, said: "She's a lovely girl. I hope she's all right."
Michaella has worked in Thompsons Garage nightclub.
A social media campaign has kicked into action – supported by Irish Olympic boxer Michael Conlon – to help find her.
Michaella's sister Samantha sent a message of thanks to the public last night.
"To everyone who is supporting us and sending kind messages, I just want you all to know that we are confident that we will find Michaella's whereabouts," she said.
"The authorities have now took control of this and we will keep you all updated whenever we hear anything more."
Michaella, who recently lived in north-Belfast's Crumlin Road area, travelled independently to Ibiza. Before she left home she had used an online-forum to seek shared accommodation.
Spanish bars and clubs often employ young men and women to stand outside to help encourage people to come in.
A source on the island said there were so many security cameras in San Antonio, the main bar area, "that if she was around there, she's bound to be picked up on them".
One of her sisters posted a Facebook appeal for help on Tuesday night, which started a social media campaign for information on sightings of her.
The appeal concerning Michaella was also answered by social media businessman Dwayne Nolan (24), who tweeted the appeal to 66,000 followers on his Ibiza Club News page.
