Families urged to get life insurance

Almost half a million families in Ireland don't have life insurance, Irish Life has claimed.

The firm has teamed up with actress Deirdre O'Kane, the mother from the hit TV show Moone Boy, to raise awareness of the need for cover.

A survey released by Irish Life shows that almost one in three Irish "mammies" admit to spying on their children to ensure they're safe, although just 6pc have taken the step of befriending their child under a Facebook alias.

Ms O'Kane said Irish mums should be recognised for the important role they play in our lives.

"Mums protect us in so many ways; from telling us little white lies, or following us to make sure we are safe, and protecting our kids dreams and futures," she said.

"But the most important way mums can protect their family, is by protecting themselves," she added.
