EDUCATION Minister Ruairi Quinn has recruited long-serving Irish Independent journalist John Walshe to be a special advisor.

Mr Walshe is currently working as the newspaper's education editor but is set to take up the high-powered role in the coming weeks.

Mr Quinn said he looks forward to using Mr Walshe's knowledge of the education system to further the Government's agenda for change.

Mr Walshe is a former consultant to the OECD where he was involved in preparing four publications relating to teacher professional development, student motivation, adult education and new forms of school management.
