The seniors group in East Wall handed over 100 sleeping bags, underclothes, gloves and hats to the Inner City Helping the Homeless (ICHH) group this week.

The group presented the items to the charity at the Sean O'Casey Community Centre - and even helped load them into the charity's new mobile unit.

Humbled

Cllr Christy Burke, who sits on the board of ICHH, said he was "humbled" that the locals had gone to such effort to make such a big donation.

"They could have used that money for trips out or for activities, but they didn't. They were so humble and didn't want any credit for it. It was amazing to see," he said.

Meanwhile, in Cabra a white-collar boxing event held in the local boxing club last Saturday raised more than €6,000 for the cancer ward at the Mater Hospital.
