The colourful history of the 1916 Rising in Dun Laoghaire -Rathdown is set to be commemorated for next year's centenary celebrations.

The DLR1916 committee has been established to gather archived materials, documents and letters that shed light on the era.

Materials collected will be used as research for a book set to be produced on the subject. An exhibition is also planned for the Lexicon Library in Dun Laoghaire in March and April next year.

James Brady and his colleagues on the DLR1916 committee will also host a series of lectures during the county's celebrations.

A number of volunteers who were casualties during the rising will have their stories documented.

Among the most famous figures from the area was Sandycove native Roger Casement.
