From Croke Park to the catwalk - Dublin player Jack McCaffrey is to take part in an upcoming fashion show fundraiser.

The event is being held for his childhood friend Jonathan Ranson, a 21-year-old student from Clontarf in Dublin.

Last summer, while in San Diego on a J1 visa, Jonathan broke his neck after diving into a swimming pool. The Trinity student is paralysed from the chest down.

Jack (21), who is a GAA Player of the Year nominee, joined television presenter Pamela Flood to launch the fashion show event, which takes place later this month.

Support

"Jonathan is one of my oldest friends, we grew up across the road from each other," said Jack.

"His accident was a horrific tragedy. It could have happened to anyone, so I am delighted to be able to play my part and support the fundraising effort."

Jack told the Herald that he and Jonathan have been friends all their lives, going to school and playing football together.

"He is a very good friend who would do anything he could for you," said Jack.

On October 18, over 350 guests will pack the Hilton Hotel, Charlemont Place, Dublin 2, for the Jonathan Ranson Trust Fashion Show. For details see www.teamjonathanranson.com
