Inchicore native Eoghan MacAoidh (24) from the up and coming band Liberty Kings, was killed immediately after the smash, which has left fellow guitarist Brian Kelly in a critical condition in hospital.
The Dublin band were just beginning their first commercial tour of Europe, kicking off in the UK, and had just finished playing a successful gig in Manchester before the tragedy struck.
The five young men were travelling on Leicestershire's M1 motorway when their camper van was involved in a collision with two lorries.
Local police are saying that one person has been arrested in connection with the crash.
The Irish music community is now in mourning and band members are asking fans to pray for an improvement in Kelly's condition.
But solace has been taken in the fact that the rest of the band were not seriously injured.
Lead singer Darragh Kelly, bassist Colm Slattery and drummer Jason Lawless were also involved in the crash, but managed to escape with only minor injuries.
The proud Dubliners have often sung the praises of their roots, saying that their name "was inspired by their Dublin surroundings".
Since forming last year, they have played a number of the capital's most popular music haunts, including Whelan's, The Village and Twisted Pepper, and had become regulars on the local music scene.
And fans and friends of the rockers have taken to their fan page to express their sympathy.
"Rest in peace Eoghan, Hope to god Brian will make a full recovery. Thoughts with all their families and the band," one fan wrote.
"I can't believe it lads I'm so sorry. Eoghan I'll miss you. Stay strong guys," another said.
"Eoghan you were one of the nicest guys I ever encountered, words can't describe how I feel. Maybe we'll encounter each other again someday.
"Thinking of you all. Such a horrible thing to happen. RIP Eoghan and praying for Brian," another added.
Meanwhile, an Irish couple abroad narrowly escaped death when the balcony off their hotel room collapsed.
Marie Fitzgerald and John Daly from Listowel, Co Kerry, had just checked into their Lanzarote hotel when the freak accident occurred.
Marie suffered severe back injuries, which required emergency back surgery, and her partner John was also injured and rushed to hospital.
A friend of the family revealed: "She is comfortable and the operation was a success," with relatives for both involved flying out to the sun destination as they are on the road to recovery.
