A YOUTH, who was "out of his mind" on rum when he stabbed his allegedly violent father, has been remanded on bail pending sentencing.
The accused told the court yesterday that he was trying to overcome a drink problem and claimed his father had been violent to his mother.
The father-of-one, now aged 18, has 40 prior criminal convictions.
Judge Ann Ryan heard that on October 30 last year, gardai received a report from the man who had been stabbed in the abdomen at Ossary Road in Dublin.
The youth pleaded guilty at the Dublin Children's Court yesterday to assault causing harm to his father.
His solicitor Ann Brizzell said he had been "out of his mind" on rum. Judge Ryan adjourned sentencing until December 20 next.
