Driver targeted to transport drugs
a DUBLIN van driver targeted by criminals to transport heroin because of his "appearance of cleanliness" will not face prison, despite an appeal by prosecutors.
Anthony Naughton (29) had his jaw broken, his vehicle vandalised and his parents were threatened if he did not agree to do what criminals wanted, the Court of Appeal heard.
Naughton, with an address in Ballyfermot, Dublin, had pleaded guilty to possessing €137k worth of heroin for sale or supply at Steeples Apartment Complex in Chapelizod on February 6, 2012. He was given a wholly-suspended six-year sentence on January 15, 2014.
The DPP unsuccessfully appealed the sentence on grounds that it was unduly lenient.
