Django actress 'mistaken for hooker'

Django Unchained actress Daniele Watts was handcuffed by police who apparently mistook her for a prostitute.

The Los Angeles Police Department said officers detained the black actress and her white companion last week after a complaint that two people were "involved in indecent exposure" in a silver Mercedes.

Watts was detained until police determined no crime had been committed.

But on a Facebook page that appears to be associated with the actress, her companion, Brian Lucas, wrote that because she is black and he is white, onlookers had assumed them to be a prostitute and her client.

Watts says on the social media site that she was guilty only of showing affection in public.

Police say an internal investigation has been launched.

Lucas told KCBS-TV that he suspects a police officer mistook the actress for a prostitute "because he was asking me who she was, how did I know her and if we were together".

A police spokesman said officers detained the pair after a complaint that two people were "involved in indecent exposure" in a silver Mercedes.

Watts told KCBS-TV station that she and Lucas were embracing in the car.

She walked away and another officer put her in handcuffs and into the back of a patrol car. She was released after police identified her.
