Did a woman kill Maria?

The south city criminal enlisted one of his closest associates to help get rid of her body after she was shot.

However the suspect's pal was so terrified that the psychopathic gangster would murder him after Marioara's body was buried that he brought a close relative with him to help in the grim dig.

"This suspect is completely psychotic -- his behaviour has led everyone who knows him to be completely terrified of him," said a source.

Gardai were probing whether Marioara could have been murdered by a woman connected to the chief suspect after she made a comment about a female relative of that woman.

After the discovery of Marioara's remains at 11am yesterday in an isolated area on the Sally Gap to Manor Kilbride road in Co Wicklow, gardai carried out a number of other linked operations.

The operations are described as "very significant."

A stash of firearms was recovered close to where the remains were found and a shotgun and handgun were also recovered.

The garda underwater unit also searched a stretch of the Grand Canal near Donore Avenue in a trawl for the suspected murder weapon.

"The investigation team has received reliable and specific information and charges in this case are likely, it is hoped," said a source.

The remains discovered yesterday are expected to be officially confirmed as Marioara's as early as today.
