Designs for an art installation to illuminate Dublin's Liberty Hall with more than 100,000 lights can now be submitted.

Budding artists from all over the world are already creating animations that will fill two sides of the iconic building and reflect across the River Liffey.

For 18 nights during the Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival, the capital's Liberty Hall will be transformed into a 50-metre screen.

Art pieces for the installation, called Playhouse, can be submitted via www.daft.ie/ playhouse and then viewed live each night on the internet in sync with music or sound effects.

Producer Brian Fallon said this was the first time a lighting art installation had been done in colour, in a working office block and with sound.

"We expect it to be picked up all over the world," said Mr Fallon, of Dreambox Productions.

The theatre festival will feature 26 Irish and international shows performed at 20 venues around the capital.
