Designers set to bake for Ireland at US cake Olympics
Two Irish cake designers are set to go rolling pin to rolling pin with the world's best cake makers.
Dubliner Paul Redmond and Leitrim lady Karen Keaney have been invited to represent Ireland at a prestigious US competition.
Bespoke cake art is a fast-growing industry in Ireland and both bakers will be hoping to bring the luck of the Irish to Florida in September.
The Global Live Challenge will take place at the Americas Cake and Sugarcraft Show and Grainne MacClancy of A Cake for You will manage the team.
They will battle it out with nine other teams from around the world to be crowned champion cake designers.
"The competition is very prestigious and these two designers are really excellent in their field," Ms Mac Clancy told the Herald.
"It really is an honour to be invited to take part.
"Both have won several awards here and in the UK. Their cakes are spectacular," she added.
The eight-hour event will be broadcast live on US network TV and will later be shown in Europe.
The cake designed by Paul and Karen will have to represent the theme 'homeland'.
Team Ireland are seeking sponsorship to help fund their trip to the US.
Any business who signs up as a sponsor will have their logo displayed behind Paul and Karen as they make their cakes.
