Referendum

Darren Kennedy appears to have broken RTE's 'gagging order' on the same-sex marriage referendum and has released a video encouraging people to "vote yes" on May 22.

Just last month, the national broadcaster forced Eoghan McDermott to pull out of a Say Yes to Love event.

Jenny Greene - who has a long-term girlfriend - previously told the Herald how she wasn't allowed discuss the referendum in interviews, though she did go on to make a passing reference to it in a later RTE Guide interview.

A memo circulated to all staff and freelancers said they were not to express their views on social media.

It applies to all contractors who are "currently involved with a production or project" and Darren's show, The Unemployables, is currently airing. Darren's heartfelt video circulated online yesterday.

Last night RTE said he is "an occasional presenter" with them. "He is not under RTE contract at present as the series was filmed some time ago."
