Cyclist dies after freak cliff accident
A DUBLIN man died in a freak accident when he was blown off a cliff in Rush.
The man, believed to be in his late 30s, was cycling his bike on a path near to his north Dublin home on Thursday when the accident happened.
The body of the deceased man who has been named locally as Anthony Bradshaw is undergoing a post mortem before it can be released to the family.
Mr Bradshaw, from Wooddale Road in Clifflands in Rush, was travelling the familiar path when a gust of wind blew him off.
Fall
Witnesses saw the unsuspecting man get blown over the edge and fall for 20-30ft. Mr Bradshaw had suffered serious injuries in the fall but he was conscious and cried for help.
Locals who saw the terrible accident quickly notified the emergency services.
A coastguard spokesman confirmed that people near the cliff could hear Mr Bradshaw calling for help but they could not see him because of rough terrain.
The Dublin coastguard replied to the emergency call out and airlifted Mr Bradshaw to Beaumont Hospital. They arrived at around 11.30am and were forced to clamber over rocks from a nearby beach to reach the stricken cyclist.
The man suffered serious head and neck injuries in the freak accident. He died later on Thursday in the hospital.
Mr Bradshaw's body has been sent for a post mortem. Fitzgerald's Funeral Directors say that his remains will be removed to St Maur's Church in Rush on Sunday evening. He will be buried after Funeral Mass at 10am on Monday morning.
