A number of incidents where clothes have been stolen from clothes lines, have occurred in the south inner city.

In a number of social housing complexes over the last three weeks, children's clothes worth hundreds of euro have been stolen after they were left out to dry in good weather.

Tracksuits were the most stolen item and the thefts have resulted in increased "pressure" on families in the complexes, said a source.

It is believed these incidents were not perpetrated by criminals but people suffering from economic difficulties.
