A number of apartment blocks in Kilmainham have been the target of gangs in the last four weeks.

While residents at work during the day, criminal gangs have been burgling apartments in the area.

"Once inside the building they call to apartments and see if anyone is at home," said a source.

"When they ascertain that the apartment is empty they force access and can rob up to five or six homes at a time."
