A young woman threw her shoe at a patrol car and subjected gardai to a tirade of abuse during a row after a wedding reception.

Mary Maughan (21) was drunk at the scene of a confrontation between families, a court heard.

She admitted using threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour to cause a breach of the peace.

She also pleaded guilty to public intoxication. Judge Michael Walsh fined her €250 at Dublin District Court.

The court heard the incident happened at Ardlea Road, Artane, on April 9 last.

A large row took place between rival Traveller families following a wedding reception at 12.20am.

Gardai cleared a number of people from the area but a few remained on and refused to leave, the court was told.

The patrol car was hit by a shoe and when a garda got out to confront Maughan, she subjected him at a "litany of verbal abuse".

She was highly intoxicated and was told to move away a number of times. She failed to do so and was arrested.

Maughan, of St Donagh's Road, Donaghmede, had no previous convictions and had not been in trouble since.

She had never been before the courts and had no history of drug or substance abuse.

"This was a blip," her lawyer said. The charges against Maughan were under the Public Order Act.
