A woman has appeared in court charged with possession of a stolen car, which she allegedly tried to sell.

Jeanette Callaghan (33) was attempting to sell the vehicle in a shopping centre car park when gardai discovered that it was stolen, it is alleged.

The case against her was adjourned at Blanchardstown District Court.

Judge David McHugh was told the DPP had consented to the case being dealt with at district court level.

There would be no further charges, the accused's solicitor Simon Fleming said.

Ms Callaghan, with an address at Buirg An Ri Walk, Balgaddy, Lucan was charged with handling a stolen black Volkswagen Golf on February 17 last. She was also charged with using a false tax disc, NCT certificate and registration cert for the same car in the same incident.

Evidence

The court heard it would be alleged that Ms Callaghan had been attempting to sell a car at Liffey Valley Retail Park on February 17 this year.

The gardai checked the car's registration and established that it was a stolen vehicle, the court was told.

Judge McHugh accepted jurisdiction to deal with the case after hearing the garda outline of the alleged evidence.

This means it can be heard at district court level, instead of being sent for trial to Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, which has more severe sentencing powers on conviction.

The judge said CCTV evidence might be available to the prosecution.

He ordered disclosure of prosecution material to the defence and adjourned the case until a date in September.

Ms Callaghan was remanded on continuing bail.

The accused, who has not yet indicated how she intends to plead to the charges against her, did not address the court during the brief hearing.
