Teenage pair are jailed for savage attack in street
TWO teenagers have been jailed for their part in the attempted robbery of a young man who was viciously attacked as he walked home through Dublin.
Joseph Lennon (18) and Mark Keogh (19) were in a group of youths who set upon the victim on a city street in the early hours of the morning. Dublin District Court heard the victim was so badly beaten he feared for his safety and moved out of his city centre home.
Lennon, of Brabazon Street, The Coombe, and Keogh of Reginald Street, Dublin 8, were both convicted of attempted robbery in the incident.
Lennon, who admitted the charge, was jailed for six months while Keogh, who pleaded not guilty, was given a seven-month sentence.
The court heard up to six men were involved in the attack at Sean McDermott Street.
Garda Lisa Young told the court Keogh was among a group of men she stopped on O'Connell Street at 3am. A short time later, she received a report that a lone male was being attacked by five to six youths.
She said the victim was kicked, punched and headbutted and, as he tried to get away, one of his assailants tripped him so they could continue their attack.
