THE arrival of Gerry Ryan in the 'Lying Eyes Hitman trial' transformed an enthralling story into the realms of pure fiction.
The surreal court case took an even more bizarre twist when the RTE Radio 2 shock jock was called to give evidence. The radio presenter was in the stand to provide testimony about two emails sent by Sharon Collins to his morning show.
In one email, Ms Collins claimed her partner PJ Howard was encouraging her to attend swingers' parties and work as a prostitute. She also claimed he enjoyed sex with transvestites.
Ryan dramatically took the stand to give evidence after being called as a witness by the defence. The RTE star said he never came into contact with either email, one of which was titled 'RE: sleeping with the enemy'.
The Central Criminal Court heard the emails were received by RTE but never came up at production meetings for Mr Ryan's radio show.
Mr Ryan was asked if he had ever come into contact with the emails and he replied: "To the best of my knowledge, no."
He also said gardai never contacted him about an email, allegedly sent on April 7, from Ms Collins' address to the Gerry Ryan show at 3.06pm.
