A NIGHTCLUBBER who injured another man with a punch to the face has been left without a conviction after donating €300 to charity.

Keith Whelan (28) hit the man, whose clothes and shoes were covered in blood when gardai arrived at the scene.

Judge Patricia McNamara applied the Probation Act at Dublin District Court.

Whelan, of McKee Avenue, Blackhorse Avenue, Dublin 7, pleaded guilty to assault causing harm to the man at the Camden Deluxe Hotel in Camden Street last January 26.

The court heard he had not come to the attention of the gardai again, had no previous convictions and had completed a restorative justice programme.

Judge McNamara noted that the injuries were "not on the major scale" and the victim had "recovered pretty quickly".

Previously, the court heard that gardai spoke to security staff who were restraining the defendant at 2.15am outside the club.

The head of security alleged that the defendant had hit another man in the bar.

The victim had blood on his clothes, including over his trousers and shoes.

He had facial injuries and was bleeding heavily from his nose.

A medical report on his injuries was presented to the court.
