Naked man smeared excrement in cell
Balbriggan district Court
A MAN who stripped naked and smeared excrement all over himself and the cell walls at a garda station after he was arrested for assaulting a garda has been sentenced to eight months in prison.
James Marry (26), of Bath Road, Balbriggan, pleaded guilty at the local district court to using threatening and abusive behaviour, being intoxicated and assaulting Gda Colin Fitzpatrick at McDonald's, Millfield Shopping Centre, Balbriggan, last October 27.
He further pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage to a cell at Balbriggan Garda Station on the same date and to unauthorised carriage in a car last January 3 at Irishtown, Gormanston.
Insp Neil Curran said gardai were called to McDonald's where Marry was involved in an altercation with two other men.
Gda Fitzpatrick intervened and Marry jumped on his back, punched him in the side of the face several times and ripped his shirt and stab vest.
Marry continued to behave aggressively at the garda station where he stripped naked in the cell and covered himself and the walls with excrement.
Insp Curran said Marry was a passenger last January in a silver BMW that was being driven at high speed and overtaking other cars in a dangerous manner.
Marry, who has six previous convictions, is "ashamed and embarrassed" over what he did, solicitor Fiona Kelly said.
"What sort of animal carries on like he did in the cell?" Judge Dermot Dempsey asked.
