Mum who stole men's clothes is spared jail
A SINGLE mother-of-two who stole nearly €700 worth of clothes from a menswear shop "did not really know why" she did it, a court heard.
Mary Lou Moorehouse (21) was given a four-month suspended sentence when she admitted a theft charge.
Judge David McHugh suspended the sentence for a year.
Moorehouse, of Wallcot, Old Connaught Avenue, Bray, pleaded guilty to stealing men's clothing worth €679 from Best's in Liffey Valley Shopping Centre.
Blanchardstown District Court heard she went to the shop at 7.05pm last November 12, took the clothes and left without paying.
She had one previous conviction for theft.
Moorehouse had left a relationship she had been in and was having trouble getting accommodation, her barrister Jennifer Jackson said.
The offence happened during a "very hectic time of year" and she did not really know why she did it, said Ms Jackson.
Moorehouse had previously suffered from post-natal depression, the court was told.
Ms Jackson said the defendant was prepared to work with the probation service.
