Man threaten to bite off garda's nose

A FORKLIFT driver who threatened to "bite the nose off" a garda after he was arrested for fighting outside a restaurant has escaped without a conviction.

Alan Melia (21) was injured during the fight, and he spat blood into the garda's hair.

The judge warned Melia that if he has a problem with alcohol he needs to sort it out.

Melia, with an address at Brookview Gardens, in Tallaght, had admitted before Tallaght District Court to public drunkenness and threatening and abusive behaviour.

The incident took place at Tallaght Cross on January 12 last. The judge applied the probation act.

Biker nearly

hit children

A YOUTH who nearly ran over three children while doing 80 kph on a scrambler motorcycle has been remanded on bail pending sentence.

The 17-year-old pleaded guilty at the Children's Court to dangerous driving, having no licence or motor insurance as well as no licence plate and not wearing a helmet during a high-speed pursuit in Finglas, Dublin, on May 12 last year.

Garda Niall Bright said the youth clocked speeds of 80kph in a housing estate and at one point drove through a park where three children, aged eight to 10 years, were playing.

"They were two to three feet from the bike as it turned," he said.
