Man stole petrol from two stations on the M1

A MAN who stole from two petrol stations on opposite sides of a motorway within a week has been given a two month suspended sentence.

Georgio Russillo (50) was also ordered to complete 240 hours community service in lieu of a further two month sentence.

Russillo, of Pinewood Green Lawns in Balbriggan pleaded guilty to making off without paying for €57 worth of petrol from Applegreen Service Station Northbound on the M1 in Lusk on January 29.

He further pleaded guilty to making off without paying for €55 worth of petrol from Applegreen Service Station Southbound on the M1 on February 7.

Balbriggan District Court heard that Russillo has 31 previous convictions.

Defence solicitor Donagh McGowan said Russillo, who is a widower with three children, had been going through a difficult time since his house burnt down recently due to an electrical fault.

"He did try to proffer the service stations with payment a while later but as the matter was with the gardai, they couldn't accept the money," explained Mr McGowan.

Judge Dermot Dempsey said Russillo is lucky he is not facing more serious charges after the court heard he was disqualified from driving at the time.
