Man smashed up hotel door

A DUBLIN man who tried to smash his way into a hotel on New Year's Eve was trying to get away from a group of people who were chasing him, a court heard.

Damien Keogh (31) caused €600 worth of damage to the glass front door of the hotel during the incident.

A judge at Blanchardstown District Court adjourned the case for the preparation of a probation report after Keogh had admitted criminal damage.

Keogh, of Greenisle Court, Clondalkin, pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage to the front door of the Green Isle Hotel, Naas Road, on December 31, 2011.

"He was being chased by a number of people who had it in for him," Keogh's solicitor said.

Keogh also admitted a separate charge of possession of a crowbar, vicegrips and gloves with intent to commit a theft at Cluain Cronain, Kilcronan Lawns, Clondalkin.
