A DUBLIN man has been charged with aggravated sexual assault, rape and false imprisonment of a woman.

The defendant (27) is also accused of threatening to kill the alleged victim.

He is facing trial by judge and jury and the case against him was adjourned at Blanchardstown District Court for the preparation of a book of evidence.

The man is charged with aggravated sexual assault at a location in west Dublin on a date in June this year.

He is further charged with falsely imprisoning and raping the woman at the same place and on the same date.

Another charge is that he made threats to kill her at a different location on the same date.

The alleged offences are under the Criminal Law (Rape) Amendment Act, Offences Against the Person and Non Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.

Garda Alma McDonnell told the court the defendant made no reply to the charges after caution.

A state solicitor said the DPP was directing trial on indictment on all charges.

This means it will be sent forward to Dublin Circuit Criminal Court when a book of evidence is ready.

Judge McHugh adjourned the case to a date later this month.

The accused was remanded on continuing bail.
