Man grew cannabis plants worth €6k

A MAN who pleaded guilty to the cultivation of over €6,000 worth of cannabis plants at his home had his case adjourned further for the facts to be heard and for him to be sentenced.

Dmitijs Sidreus (34), of Whispering Pines, Whytestown, Naul, Co Dublin, pleaded guilty at Balbriggan District Court to cultivating the cannabis plants without a licence at his home on September 17, 2014.

Sergeant Tony Tighe told Judge Dermot Dempsey the Director of Public Prosecutions has consented to summary disposal of the case, which means it can be heard at District Court level. He said the total amount of the cannabis plants was €6,400. Defence solicitor Fiona D'Arcy asked Judge Dempsey to mark a plea of guilty and asked if the case could be adjourned for a week to allow her to gather letters to use in mitigation.

Judge Dempsey remanded Sidreus on continuing bail to reappear before the court on July 9 for facts to be heard and for Sidreus to be sentenced.
