A young man started dropping deals of cannabis onto his driveway when he saw gardai arriving at his home to search it, a court heard.

Glen McDermott (25) was caught with nearly €1,000 worth of cannabis, which he had planned on sharing with friends.

Judge David McHugh adjourned sentencing to allow McDermott to bring a of letters and medical reports to court.

The defendant, of Colepark Green in Ballyfermot, admitted before Blanchardstown District Court to possession of cannabis as well as having the drug for sale or supply.

Garda David Comerford said he had a warrant to search the defendant's home on July 1, 2014.

Gda Comerford said McDermott was standing in the driveway talking to three other males when officers arrived on the scene.

He said McDermott had his hands in his pockets and small packages started falling out.

Gda Comerford said he found 11 packages of cannabis, with a street value of €992.

Letters

Gda Comerford said McDermott's parents were in the house at the time and gardai searched it, but no drugs were found.

The court heard the defendant has 21 previous convictions, including two previous for the sale or supply of drugs.

His defence asked the judge to defer sentencing so the defendant can bring some letters and medical reports to court.
