A man charged with robbing another man in Rathmines in the early hours of Wednesday morning has been remanded in custody with consent to bail.

Darryl Smith (33) appeared before Judge Michael Walsh at Dublin District Court yesterday afternoon after he was arrested by gardai in Rathmines following the alleged robbery.

It is alleged that while a man was walking through Rathmines Park at around 12.15am he was approached by a man with a knife and threatened.

Garda Michael Connolly told the court the 27-year-old's mobile phone was taken from him.The suspect then ran off in the direction of Rathgar Road.

Gardai in Rathmines were alerted a short time later and, following a search in the area, a man was arrested and detained at Rathmines Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. During a follow-up search they found a mobile phone.

Smith, of Rathmines Avenue, was remanded in custody with consent to cash bail to appear in court again on September 23.
