A guest walked out of a hotel with a flat-screen TV hidden in a blanket, a court heard.

Thomas Keenan (20) was identified from CCTV leaving the hotel with the TV.

Judge David McHugh imposed a four-month sentence.

The defendant, of St Joseph's Park in Finglas, admitted before Blanchardstown District Court to stealing a TV.

The incident took place at the Bracken Court Hotel in Balbriggan on April 3, 2014.

Wrapped

Garda Joey Carolan said Keenan took a TV from the room he had stayed in, wrapped it in a blanket and walked out.

The TV, worth €419, was not recovered, the garda said.

The court heard Keenan has 28 previous convictions.

Defence solicitor Simon Fleming said Keenan is "not the villain" he may appear to be.

Keenan further admitted t o driving without insurance and to possession of 16 gas bottles at North Road in Finglas on May 14, 2015.

They had previously been stolen from a Centra store in Lucan.

On those matters, Judge McHugh fined Keenan €500, banned him from driving for six years and imposed a four-month sentence suspended for two years.
