A hotel guest was allegedly punched twice in the face with a closed fist by another patron.

Desmond Carpenter (27) was allegedly caught on CCTV cameras assaulting the other man.

Judge David McHugh adjourned the matter for two weeks to allow gardai to furnish CCTV footage to the defence team.

Mr Carpenter is charged with assault causing harm to another man at Castleknock Hotel on April 25.

He is also charged with public drunkenness and threatening and abusive behaviour at the same time and place.

The court heard the DPP has directed summary trial in the District Court.

Outlining the allegation for the court, Sergeant Mary Doherty said it will be alleged Mr Carpenter struck the man twice with a closed fist.

Stitches

Sgt Doherty claimed the victim suffered a split upper lip and received eight stitches, both internal and external.

The sergeant further alleged the victim fell, hit his head and suffered a cut to his right eyebrow.

Defence lawyer Jennifer Jackson said she was still waiting for CCTV footage of the alleged incident.

Mr Carpenter, with an address at Belgard Square North in Tallaght, has not yet entered a plea to the charge.
