Gardai foiled arson attack

A TEENAGER caught in the back of a car had a lighter in his hand and was trying to set the vehicle on fire, a court heard.

The 17-year-old youth admitted before Blanchardstown District Court to causing €300 of damage to the vehicle on April 4 last.

A probation report was ordered and the matter was adjourned to the Children's Court in a week's time.

Garda Sergeant Marie Callaghan said the offence happened on the Berryfield estate in Finglas.

Gardai called to the scene took the lighter off the youth, and put out a fire in the glove box.



'MP3 player found on man'

A Man was allegedly caught by gardai in possession of a stolen MP3 player on a west Dublin housing estate.

Mark Waldron (31), of Greenfort Crescent, Clondalkin, appeared at Blanchardstown District Court charged with two counts of possession of stolen property at Rosse Court Estate and Buirg An Ri Walk, both in Lucan, on January 17.

It was alleged that Waldron (above) had a bottle of ladies' perfume and a pink Sony MP3 player.

The matter was adjourned for two weeks.



Teen vandal in bid to take car

A YOUTH who ran off after he smashed a car window returned less than 24 hours later and tried to take the vehicle before the owner had an opportunity to get it repaired, a court heard.

The 17-year-old was challenged by the victim's neighbours but ran away and was later caught by gardai on Newcastle Road in Lucan. He was searched and was found with vice grips and a monkey wrench.

The youth admitted before Blanchardstown District Court to damaging the vehicle at Castlegate Way, Adamstown, in the early hours of February 16 last.

Sentencing was adjourned to a date in June.
