Family friend allegedly assaulted girl (11) while playing 'jockey'
A FAMILY friend is accused of inappropriately touching a couple's 11-year-old daughter while he was playing 'jockey back' with her.
The 43-year-old allegedly felt the girl on her backside and chest during two sexual assaults.
Judge David McHugh ordered the disclosure of statements and adjourned the matter for six weeks.
The accused appeared before Blanchardstown District Court charged with two counts of sexually assaulting a girl between February and December 2012.
The court heard the DPP has directed summary disposal of the matters in the District Court where the penalties are less severe.
Outlining the allegation for jurisdiction purposes, Sergeant Mary Doherty claimed the man was giving the 11-year-old "a jockey back" when he put his hands on her bum.
In relation to the second assault, Sgt Doherty alleged the accused put his open hands on the girl's chest.
Both times, Sgt Doherty alleged the man touched the girl outside her clothes.
Sgt Doherty said the accused was a friend of the child's parents.
Judge McHugh accepted jurisdiction of the charges, meaning the matters will remain in the District Court.
The court heard the accused is unemployed and defence solicitor Aoife Corridan was assigned on free legal aid.
