Drunk teenager stole bag as man jogged in park
A TEEN who was drunkenly making his way home from a house party stole a mobile phone and keys from a man's sports bag as he was training in a local park.
Kevin Moran (19) was spotted by the runner taking the sports bag and mobile phone, and the gardai were called.
The defendant, who recently completed his Leaving Certificate and hopes to train as an engineer, said he was highly embarrassed and ashamed.
A judge ordered Moran to donate €300 to the court Poor Box, and adjourned the matter to January to see if the defendant could stay out of trouble.
Moran, of Hermitage Gardens in Lucan, admitted theft before Blanchardstown District Court.
The incident took place at Ballyowen Park, Lucan on July 20 last.
Garda Sergeant Maria Callaghan said the victim was training in Ballyowen Park shortly after 7am, and he had left a sports bag on the ground.
Moran came along, and took a mobile phone, keys and clothing, all worth around €300.
Sgt Callaghan said the victim saw Moran take the items, and the gardai were immediately called.
The defendant admitted taking the items, which were all recovered.
