A woman who was caught trying to sell a stolen car had been told she would be given "a few hundred quid", a court heard.

Janette Callaghan (33), who was using drugs at the time, was "not the master- mind of the operation", Blanchardstown District Court heard.

"She co-operated with the gardai," said defence solicitor Simon Fleming.

He added that she had suffered significant tragedy after two of her siblings died from a drug overdoses.

Heroin

"Following their deaths she turned to abusing heroin and went down a dark path," Mr Fleming added.

He said she was using drugs at the time and was told she would "get a few hundred quid for the job".

Callaghan (33) was in Liffey Valley Retail Park when Gda Ciara McNulty came across her selling the car.

The vehicle had false plates, tax disc and registration certificate.

Callaghan, of Buirg An Ri Walk, Balgaddy, Lucan, Co Dublin, was arrested and the car was returned to its owner.

She admitted handling the stolen Volkswagen Golf at Liffey Valley Retail Park on February 17 and was given a three-month suspended sentence.
