A cyclist was thrown over the bonnet of a car and suffered a fracture to his elbow after a vehicle pulled out suddenly in front of him, a court heard.

Driver Angela Hall (61) was due to start a course and she was not sure where she was going.

Judge John Lindsay ordered Hall to donate €250 to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at St Vincent's Hospital and struck out the charge.

The defendant, of Willowbank, Sandyford Road, Dublin, admitted before Dun Laoghaire District Court to careless driving.

Sgt Peadar McCann said the injured party was cycling along Ballinteer Road, Dundrum, on September 19, 2014 when Hall pulled out suddenly in front of him, throwing him over the bonnet of her car and on to the road.

Sgt McCann said Hall hit the front wheel of the bike.

Recovery

He added that the cyclist suffered a small fracture to the right elbow and has since made a full recovery.

The court heard the defendant has no previous convictions.

Defence solicitor Jonathan Dunphy said Hall was starting a course, she did not know where she was going and had made a turn.

She failed to see the cyclist in her blind spot.

Mr Dunphy said the defendant stayed at the scene and offered to take the cyclist to a doctor or to hospital.

He added that the bike was not damaged.
