A 21-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with the murder of Karen Buckley and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

Alexander Pacteau, with an address at Dorchester Avenue in Glasgow, made a brief appearance during a private hearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court this afternoon.

The Procurator Fiscal in Glasgow has earlier received a report regarding the 21-year-old.

Mr Pacteau made no plea and he has been remanded in custody.

Karen (24) was originally from Co Cork, but had been living and studying in Glasgow since January.

She was last seen on CCTV outside the Sanctuary nightclub in the early hours of last Sunday morning. After four days of intense searches, police uncovered human remains.

Karen's father John said that he, his wife Marian and sons Brendan, Kieran and Damian were "absolutely heartbroken".

"Karen was our only daughter, cherished by our family and loved by her friends.

"She was an outgoing girl, who travelled the world where she met lots of people and thoroughly enjoyed her life.

"We will miss her terribly."

The remains were found near High Craigton Farm outside the village of Milngavie, about 10km north-west of the city.
