Courtlands wins top area award in Dublin

The overall winner of the Dublin City Neighbourhood Awards 2015 is Courtlands Residents' Association in Drumcondra.

Lord Mayor Criona Ni Dhalaigh (inset) presented the top prize of €3,900 to the association's chairman, John Ryan, at an awards ceremony in Croke Park last night.

"There was great community spirit over the years in making improvements to our area," said Mr Ryan.

Dublin City Council Litter Prevention Officer Bernie Lillis said the awards acknowledged hundreds of hours of voluntary work done by people in communities all over the city.

Woodlawn Residents' Association in Santry was the runner-up and received a €2,200 prize.

Walkinstown Green Social Enterprises Ltd (WALK) was the overall winner in the business category and received a cheque for €2,300.

Other winners were: Best Mixed Use Street - Berkeley Environmental Awareness Group; Best Garden - Rialto Men's Gardening and Social Club; Best Community Environment Initiative - Flanagan's Fields Community Garden; Best Allotment/Community Garden - Saint Anne's Walled Garden Allotments.

Other category winners included Willie's Garden Residents' Association, Palmerston Grove Residents' Association, Rathborne Community Association and Monck Place.
