Cool and collected, Mrs Clooney returns to legal work after honeymoon

THE honeymoon is over for Mrs George Clooney, who has already returned to work.

Keen to stick to tradition, Amal Alamuddin took her Hollywood A-Lister's surname in his honour.

Amal Clooney is one of a team of lawyers representing Greece's campaign to reclaim the Parthenon Sculptures from Britain.

The legal eagles from Doughty Street Chambers, London, were in Athens to submit their proposals to get 5th Century sculptures returned to Greece from the UK.

The prominent human rights advocate is advising the Greek government in its bid to reclaim the Parthenon Marbles which were acquired by Thomas Bruce, 7th Earl of Elgin, in the early 19th Century through a deal with the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire.

The sculptures have been on display in the British Museum since 1816.

Greece says the marbles were illegally removed during Turkish occupation and should be returned for display in a new Athens museum.

Britain rejects the argument and has so far refused to return them.

"It's the world's most famous case of cultural restitution, and I will follow it with keen interest," said Amal.

The case has attracted even more attention given the drawing power of the Lebanese-born beauty.

The newlywed looked particularly smart in a crisp white shift dress with pale green stripe detail. She teamed the outfit with a pair of kitten-heel shoes, a large tan handbag and oversized sunglasses.

Culture minister Kostas Tassoulas said he had long discussions with Amal, who recently married the ER and Oceans stars, and her two colleagues on a potential legal bid for the works.

LAVISH

The marbles decorated the Parthenon temple on the Acropolis for more than 2,000 years.

Amal married Clooney in a lavish wedding in Venice on September 27, which reportedly cost around £8m (€10m).

Since the ceremony, she has changed her professional name to Amal Clooney, according to a listing on the website of her employers.
