Construction: Tender prices fall 11pc

CONSTRUCTION tender prices have fallen by 11pc over the past year, and now the Society of Chartered Surveyors (SCS) has called for the introduction of a property tax.

The latest index shows that while prices decreased by 3.7pc over the first six months of the year, this is almost half the fall recorded in the second half of last year.

"The dramatic reduction in prices reflects the ongoing decline in all sectors of the industry, with 80,000 workers having lost their jobs last year," said the SCS president Peter Stapleton.
