Confidence 'through the roof' as family shed combined 14st
A SUPER-slimming Dublin family has managed to lose an astonishing 14 stone.
The Travers family from Lucan - sisters Louise and Julie-Ann and their mother Antoinette - began their quest to lose weight at the start of last year and have reaped the rewards, while still being "allowed to eat chippers".
Louise (35), lost 5st 10lb, her sister lost 4st and dropped from a size 18 dress size to a size 10, while Antoinette's dress size fell from a size 18 to a size 8.
Louise told the Herald that her confidence was at an all-time low and she had to do something about it.
She decided to get her mother and sister to join in the health kick as well.
"I'm almost six stone lighter and I can do a lot more now because of it. I can go in to shops that I never used to be able to before and I can run down the stairs without being out of breath," said Louise.
She said that there were no major changes in her diet, just some subtle alterations. This included keeping most of her eating to mealtimes as opposed to snacking throughout the day.
"People look at me and say: 'You've lost that much weight and you can still eat all of that?' You can still have carbs, but you just have to fruit or vegetables as well," she explained.
Her sister, Julie-Ann took up the regime to get in shape for her wedding day earlier this year and was delighted to walk down the aisle in her chosen dress.
"I've had to throw a lot of clothes away, all of my big sizes and buy new clothes," said Julie-Ann (37).
Meanwhile, Louise says the weight loss has given her a confidence boost when she meets up with friends.
"Before I would've been hiding away in corners when I went out, but it's not like that now," she said.
"Even my boss told me that my confidence has gone through the roof," she added.
She praised Slimming World Lucan organiser Cherie Lynch, who takes four classes of a combined 300 people each week.
"She's just been brilliant for us. She's down to earth and will tell you it as it is," said Louise.
"She's also become one of my closest friends since I started."
