Comic Maeve took the race in her stride
COMEDIAN Maeve Higgins jetted back to Ireland to take part in this year's Mini Marathon.
The funny woman completed the race in around two hours, preferring to talk to participants along the way rather than compete for the best time.
"I trained to run it but then I decided to walk it so I could chat to people ... I'm like the encouragement coach," she told the Herald.
"At least that's what I was telling myself as I was strolled around."
Spirits were high on the course she said and everyone pulled together.
"It was tough because of the weather. It was really blustery but everyone was in such good form.
"I thought because it was rainy and windy at the beginning that maybe people would drop out but the numbers were incredible.
"We are used to the weather anyway, so everyone was happy to laugh it off."
"I think it's probably harder if you are a spectator because you're standing around- you're not walking around."
Maeve, who was an ambassador for sponsors Vhi, only stepped off a plane from the US on Sunday ahead of the race, which was won by Dubliner Maria McCambridge (pictured, right).
Fitness fanatic Kathryn Thomas also took part in the Mini Marathon yesterday - in aid of the Irish Hospice Foundation.
Kathryn got a well- deserved hug at the finish line from her beau Padraig McLoughlin at the end of a grat day.
