Charity director gets injunction

The director of services of a charity that helps people with intellectual disabilities has secured a High Court injunction preventing his employers from appointing somebody else to his position.

Dr Ian Grey has launched his action against the Co Wicklow-based St Catherine's Association Ltd, which he claims is about to "demote him" by appointing another person to the position he has held for a number of years.

Dr Grey yesterday secured a temporary injunction from Mr Justice Paul McDermott restraining St Catherine's from appointing another person to his role.

Singer Lynsey de Paul dies

Singer-songwriter Lynsey de Paul, who scored top 10 hits, wrote TV themes and represented the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest, has died at the age of 64.

The star, whose biggest hit, Sugar Me, got to number five in 1972, died in hospital.She had complained of severe headaches and it is understood she might have suffered a brain haemorrhage.

Vegetarian de Paul had been seen in recent years on TV shows such as Come Dine With Me and Cash In The Attic, and she also acted in the Stephen Fry drama Kingdom.

Oz parliament bans burqas

Burqa-clad women wanting to see parliamentary proceedings in Australia will have to watch in glass enclosures.

The move comes a day after prime minister Tony Abbott said he believed the burqa should be removed in buildings that are subject to security checks.

"Persons with facial coverings entering the House of Representatives and Senate will be seated in the enclosed galleries," the Department of Parliamentary Services said.

Dr Zhivago for Broadway stage

The latest version of Cinderella will soon disappear from the Broadway Theatre, but another romantic musical is ready to take its place - Doctor Zhivago.

Producers said the tale of five intertwined lovers set during the final days of Czarist Russia will be led by two-time Tony Award winner Des McAnuff, who also directed Jersey Boys.

Previews will begin on March 27.
